Overall, Fun Game but i'm missing alot of difficulty within the game, most obstacles are fairly easy to avoid by just not going in that direction the only obstacle that I had to really avoid was the moving sawblade that comes directly at you every few seconds or so (i believe that's what it was doing). overall more levels or more tighter hallways could really help increase the difficulty.
I would really love to see more types of obstacles, or have the obstacles really feel in the way of the players movement. for example making the player auto move forward would create a bigger sense of urgency and force them to make more quick decisions.
I also didn't notice the timer till at the end of the first level....
While having all the negatives I do like the concept of the concept of the game.
This game blends elements of fast-paced racing with platforming mechanics, creating a unique 2D adventure where players collect strawberries while navigating treacherous environments filled with spinning saw blades. While the premise is intriguing, the execution leaves much to be desired, resulting in a frustrating rather than enjoyable experience.
Gameplay
The core gameplay involves controlling a small character as it speeds through levels, collecting strawberries scattered across the map. The challenge comes from avoiding deadly saws that are strategically placed to block your path or force you into tight maneuvers. While this setup has potential for intense and rewarding gameplay, several issues undermine its success:
Controls: The controls feel unresponsive and overly sensitive, making precise movements difficult. In a game where timing and accuracy are critical, this flaw leads to frequent, unfair deaths.
Level Design: Levels are poorly balanced. Some sections are impossibly cluttered with obstacles, while others feel empty and uninspired. This inconsistency disrupts the flow of the game and makes progression feel arbitrary.
Difficulty Curve: Rather than gradually increasing in difficulty, the game throws players into chaotic scenarios right from the start. This lack of a proper learning curve alienates newcomers and makes the experience unnecessarily punishing.
Graphics and Sound
The visuals are simplistic but functional, with colorful environments that emphasize the strawberries and hazards. However, the art style lacks polish and originality, giving the game an amateurish appearance. The saw blades look generic and fail to evoke any real sense of danger.
The soundtrack is non-existent.
Replayability
The game offers little incentive to replay levels once completed. There are no alternate paths, hidden secrets, or meaningful rewards for collecting all strawberries in a level. The absence of leaderboards or multiplayer modes further diminishes its replay value.
Strengths
Despite its flaws, the game does have some redeeming qualities:
Simple Concept: The idea of combining racing with collectible mechanics is appealing and has potential for addictive gameplay.
Short Sessions: Levels are brief, making it easy to play in short bursts.
Weaknesses
Unfortunately, these strengths are overshadowed by significant shortcomings:
Poor controls and level design make the game more frustrating than fun.
Lack of variety in obstacles and environments leads to monotony.
Minimal replay value due to the absence of additional content or features.
Conclusion
This 2D racing adventure had an interesting concept but fails to deliver an enjoyable experience due to its flawed execution. With better controls, improved level design, and more engaging content, it could have been a standout indie title. As it stands, however, it feels like an unfinished project that struggles to hold players' attention.
Score: 4/10
While there’s potential here, significant improvements are needed before this game can be recommended.
Fun game, would like more levels. Also add something to encourage the player of moving forward and not standing still to avoid obstacles (pushing wall/timer) 300 seconds seems like a long time for a short level to beat. Add more obstacles :)
